ABOUT THE FESTIVAL

The Bread and Roses Heritage Festival is a celebration of the labor history and cultural diversity of Lawrence. Every Labor Day, we commemorate the 1912 Strike with arts performances, educational workshops, social justice presentations, local food and crafts vendors, and walking and trolley tours sponsored by the Friends of the Lawrence Heritage State Park.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all of our incredible patrons, vendors, and volunteers for making our 2024 Bread and Roses Festival another tremendous success. Your support, enthusiasm, and commitment to our community have been the driving force behind this event's continued growth. Thanks to your participation, we were able to celebrate culture, music, art, and the spirit of togetherness in ways that will resonate for years to come. We are deeply grateful for your presence, your generosity, and for the positive energy you bring each year. Together, we’re building something truly special, and we can't wait to see you all again next year!

LAWRENCE HISTORY LIVE!

Lawrence History Live! is a special place at the festival where you can learn about the history of the strike and the ways it connects to the lives of Lawrencians and workers today. We feature history told “from below” - from the millworker’s perspective and not the mill owner’s; from the renter’s and not the real estate mogul’s; from everyday folks and not the wealthy or the politically connected.
