OUR MISSION
The Bread and Roses Heritage Committee honors the Strike of 1912 as a grassroots labor movement led by working class immigrants and their descendants in the city of Lawrence, Massachusetts - a fight for social justice that continues to this day even as the demographics of the city continue to change. Our mission is to honor the essence of the past while building a more equitable present and future through education, arts, activism, and support of the local economy. In the spirit of the "Bread and Roses" Strike of 1912, the Committee hosts community events throughout the year to support residents’ ability to both survive (bread) and thrive (roses), in addition to coordinating an annual Labor Day festival on the site of the Strike in Lawrence, Massachusetts.
